Children's Bassoons - A Wonderful Teaching Tool for Young Bassoonists
With programs throughout Europe, the Wolf children's bassoons are an effective tool to start younger kids on the bassoon. With these instruments, children as young as 5 begin playing the bassoon before they are able to hold a full size instrument. As a result, by the time the player is ready for a regular bassoon, they've already been playing for several years and are at a much higher level of experience than if they had started on clarinet or another woodwind.
The Wolf Fg8+
Pitched one octave higher than a standard bassoon, the Wolf Fg8+ is the smallest member of the bassoon family. Unlike the other models, this instrument features numerous changes to the traditional German key system. There is no option for a functional whisper key on the Fg8 or Fg8+. Many keys that are normally found on a bassoon, do not exist on this instrument. This includes the low E and low C keys, and on the Fg8, the low Bb key.
The Wolf Fg8+ also possesses a number of upgrades that the Fg8 does not have. This includes the addition of the low Bb key, C# and a vent key on the wing joint, thumb Bb and F# keys on the boot joint, and a low C# key.
The children's instruments use regular bassoon reeds. Although there are reeds designed specifically for this instrument, a teacher should be able to put their own reeds on an Fg5 and make a sound.
This instrument comes in a light backpack case. It also has one bocal and a special swab, neck strap, fingering chart, and a reed case!
