Schreiber is a popular option for student bassoons all over the world. Originally based in Nauheim, Germany, the company now belongs to Buffet Crampon, who also distributes the bassoons.

The S16 is the premiere student-level bassoon in the Schreiber line. As a result, this bassoon rivals the Fox Renard 220 and 240. It boasts a colorful, warm sound that projects very well. The key work feels comfortable and the bassoon has excellent response.

The mechanism includes silver-plated key work and professionally equipped. It features a high D and E key, left hand whisper key lock, and double touch piece on low C. Additionally, the body is made of mountain maple. The S16 features very stable intonation and a warm sound, reminiscent of German makers like Püchner and Heckel. This bassoon has excellent, light response, and a colorful sound that will cut through the orchestra more easily.
