Mini Bassoons - A Wonderful Teaching Tool for Young Bassoonists

With programs throughout Europe, the Wolf mini bassoons are an effective tool to start younger kids on the bassoon. With these instruments, children as young as 5 begin playing the bassoon before they are able to hold a full size instrument. Asa result, by the time a child is ready for regular bassoon, they've already been playing for several years and are at a much higher level of playing than if they had started on clarinet or another woodwind.

The Wolf Fg4

The Wolf Fg4 Mini Bassoon is pitched in F. This makes the instrument a fourth higher than a regular bassoon. It is the lowest pitch of the mini bassoons. Therefore, it is ideal for older kids (8-10), and is the last option before they graduate to a full size bassoon.

There are multiple configuration options available for the Fg4. The base model Fg4 has no functional whisper key. A touch piece exists on the instrument in order to simulate where the student puts their thumb, but it does not operate a mechanism.

The Wolf Fg4+ employs a fully functional whisper key mechanism.

There is also a professional version of this instrument, called the Fg4P. Not only does it have a functional whisper key, but it also possesses additional keys to feel more like a fully professional bassoon. Please inquire about ordering this instrument.

The Wolf Fg4 uses regular bassoon reeds. Although there are reeds designed specifically for this instrument, a teacher should be able to put their own reeds on an Fg4 and make a sound.

This instrument comes in a light backpack case. It also has one bocal and a special swab, as well as a small set of accessories.
