This used Heckel bassoon is an incredible piece of history. Built around 1894, this instrument is by far one of the oldest to ever come through our shop. Calling all bassoon history buffs, this one is for you!
This bassoon features a lovely, intimate voice with a dark sound. Since this instrument is quite light and a bit smaller than a modern bassoon, it is easy to hold and play.
At some point some of the keywork was modernized with a high D key and a left hand whisper key lock. There is also an additional whisper key for the left hand index finger on the wing joint, just above the first tone hole. This bassoon is also unique in that the u-tube, rather than being fastened by screws, features a sliding mechanism for easy removal for repair.
The MMI repair shop has done some work to this bassoon, but not enough to offer our warranty. It is currently in playable condition and seals, but could use some additional attention to key fitting and height for comfortable playing.
The price of this instrument is $4,635 which includes the check price of $4,500 plus a 3% fee for credit card purchases.
