Characteristics
Made with the newer Cornelison shape, these reeds combine robust tone with flexibility and easy response. The Cornelison shape merges the designs of two famous shapes, featuring the blade of the Christlieb narrow and the tube of the Herzberg. The result is a reed with structure to support projection without being overly resistant.
These reeds vibrate pretty easily and have a round, dark sound. They have an impressive dynamic range, especially on the low end, and easily play the entire range of the instrument.
Notes From the Maker
Every reed is play tested and adjusted by hand before it leaves the door. Because changes in humidity during shipping can cause the wires to loosen slightly, a more thorough soaking period is recommended before the first use. If the wires remain loose after the reed has been fully soaked and played, they may need to be gently tightened. The scrape is designed to work well for a wide range of bassoonists seeking a robust, resonant sound, while still leaving enough material for players to make small adjustments according to their own preferences.
