Delano Bassoon Reed

$21.00

The Delano reed is a handmade American-style bassoon reed. It is a very responsive reed with a comfortable level of resistance. The maker uses Rigotti cane shaped with a Rieger #13 shaper and profiled on a Herzberg machine. Each reed is tested on a 10,000 series Heckel. The Delano reed is one of our best selling reeds.

Limit 2.

Adjustment tips from the reed maker:

If the reed is too stiff and also sharp, flatten the first wire. This will close the tip and weaken the reed.

If the reed is too free-blowing and also flat, round the first wire. This will open the tip and strengthen the reed.

If the reed is too stiff and also flat, round the second wire. This closes the tip but keeps the pitch up.

If the reed is too free-blowing and also sharp, flatten the second wire. This opens the tip but lowers the pitch.

The wires are always your first line of defense, but if you have tried adjusting the wires without success, you can take off a little cane.

If you are having problems with response, take off cane near the tip.

If response is ok, but the reed just feels too stiff and hard to control, take cane out near the collar (back). Try to avoid scraping cane out of the center of the reed; instead scrape just to the side of the center.
