Fox Oboes & English Horns

Founded in 1949 by Hugo Fox, the principal bassoon of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Fox is well regarded for their quality, consistent performance, and craftsmanship.  Originally founded as a manufacturer of bassoons, Fox introduced their first oboes in 1974. In 1999, the first Fox English Horns were released.

Fox Oboes & English Horns are valued by students, teachers, and professionals alike. The Renard line, Fox's student model oboe line, is the most popular collection of student oboes in the world. From the complete beginner to the seasoned professional, Fox has an oboe or English Horn for everyone!

 

Renard Line

The Renard line is Fox's student oboe line. The following models are made for beginner to intermediate players. 

333: Renard Protégé Model 333 is Fox’s beginner-level oboe. Made of synthetic resin, with modified conservatory keywork. Now made to include a left F and low Bb.

330: Renard Artist Model 330 is Fox’s intermediate oboe. Available in full synthetic resin, grenadilla with a synthetic top joint, or full grenadilla, with modified conservatory keywork.

 

Professional Oboes

The Fox 300, 450, and 400 are Fox’s original professional oboes. They feature Fox’s original bore and tone hole design and have standard full conservatory keywork.

300: The Fox Model 300 is one of Fox’s original professional oboes. Made of synthetic resin, with full conservatory keywork

450: The Fox Model 450 is one of Fox’s original professional oboes. The top joint is made of synthetic resin, with a grenadilla wood lower joint and bell.

400: The Fox Model 400 is one of Fox’s original professional oboes. Made of all-grenadilla wood, with full conservatory keywork.

800: The Fox Model 800 is an updated version of the Fox 400. Dimensional changes in the bore and tone holes provide a bigger sound. Made of all-grenadilla wood, with full conservatory keywork.

880: The Fox Sayen Model 880, or 880G, is designed to produce the richest and darkest sound of all Fox oboes. It has a larger body with thick walls and is trimmed with gold plated posts and bands. Made of the most select grenadilla wood, with full conservatory keywork including the Philadelphia High D & adjustable C vent.

880 Maple: The Fox Sayen Maple 880, or 880M, uses the same design as the Sayen 880 Grenadilla and is made of select maple wood. The Maple Sayen is 16% lighter than the Grenadilla 880, with a fully lined upper and lower joint to reduce the risk of cracking.

 

Fox English Horns

All Fox English Horns come with a two Fox XL bocals – a 2XL & a 3XL. The 500 line – the 520, 510, and 500 are Fox’s original professional English Horn, developed in conjunction with Grover Schiltz of the Chicago Symphony.

555: The Fox Renard Artist Model 555 is Fox’s intermediate level English Horn. Made of synthetic resin, with a modified conservatory keywork. A great choice for students, schools, and doublers!

520: The Fox Model 520 is one of Fox’s original professional English Horns. Made of synthetic resin, with full conservatory keywork.

510: The Fox Model 510 is one of Fox’s original professional English Horns. The top joint is made of synthetic resin, with a grenadilla wood lower joint and bell.

500: The Fox Model 500 is one of Fox’s original professional English Horns. Made of all-grenadilla wood, with full conservatory keywork.

580: The Tristan Model 580 is made of select maple wood, which adds a complexity of tone. The Maple Tristan is 25% lighter than a standard grenadilla English Horn, with a full lined upper and lower joint to reduce the risk of cracking.
