Oboe Masterclass Led By Peter Cooper - Videos

Back in September, we were very fortunate to host Colorado Symphony Principal Oboist and Marigaux Artist Peter Cooper for a masterclass event.  We had 5 amazing student participants, instruments and accessories, and a day full of oboe.  Here are a few videos to share from the event.

New Buffet Bass Clarinets

Close up Bass Clarinet - Prestige buffetBuffet Crampon's 1193 Prestige bass clarinet is an excellent instrument that features amazing projection that will cut through any band or orchestra with ease.  The overall sound is warm, focused and consistent throughout all ranges.  The altissimo range is particularly easy to play with the right mouthpiece and reed combination.  The rich quality in the lower register combined with the quintessential bass clarinet sound is sure not to disappoint.

Tosca up close

Buffet Crampon’s Tosca bass clarinet is amazing! On first play I sensed how easy it is to play.  The new bore design creates a sound that is soloistic in nature but is also warm and focused.  Immediately I could tell the difference between the Prestige in sound and key performance.  The instrument seems to do all the work for you as it almost has the feel of playing a Bb clarinet, especially when going over the break.  This is perhaps due to the new and unique register key system.  The keys are easy to reach (even for small hands) as it has a compact feel.  Buffet replaced the right thumb low D with an alternate low Eb (Genius!)  The consistency in tone and feel between each register is amazing. The intonation of the instrument is quite good.  There is definitely an improvement in tuning in comparison to the Prestige, however, as with all instruments there are some inconsistencies.

We have regular stock of these instruments, which is very rare.  This gives buyers an opportunity to gage the amazing feel and tone for themselves.

About F.Lorée Oboes -

The reputation of F.Lorée oboes is based on both tradition and advanced techniques.

Indeed, they are still handcrafted from carefully selected pieces of grenadilla wood from Mozambique (« Forest Stewardship Council » (FSC) certified) stored for more than five years. According to time-honored traditions, keys are made in solid nickel-silver then plated with a thick coat of silver or gold. Highly technical means of measure and control reduce tolerances in the fitting of the keys which can then react to the highest velocity and in silence for studio work and concert. Because it improves the reliability of the adjustments, the use of cork pads throughout the instrument contributes to an easy sound emission aven after years of performances.

F.Lorée strives for perfection through the development of a permanent staff training program and encouraging an active participation of the technicians in quality control. The ultimate finishing is manual but the control of tuning uses the most advanced electronic equipment available.

In 2010, the company was awarded the State label "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" ("Living Heritage Company", or EPV) that rewards French firms for the excellence of their traditional and industrial skills.
