Since the 1881 opening of Francois Loree's oboe factory in France, Loree oboes have been known around the world for their high quality. Midwest Musical Imports began importing Loree instruments from Anne and Alain de Gourdon in 1984, and continues to do so today. We have a generous number of Loree instruments in stock, and we work very hard to ensure that the wait for these instruments is absolutely minimal, if at all. Three instruments may be sent for a one-week trial at a time, and there is occasionally a waiting list for Loree oboes. Since each instrument has a "personality" all its own, we feel it is important for our customers to have the opportunity to try more than one at a time. We are proud to offer a 2-year crack/ 1-year adjustment warranty with each new instrument purchased, which covers normal maintenance, adjustment, and cracks. Our trained staff of repair technicians is acutely aware of the intricacies involved with Loree instruments, and has a great ability for insuring that the instruments play at their optimum level.
Loree oboes come in three bore styles, which physically differ mostly in the bell:
1) Regular Bore: This bore style predates both the AK and the DM bore. It has a rich, dark tone which oboists have come to love.
2) AK Bore: This bore is slightly more conical than the Regular, rendering it narrower near the top and slightly wider at the bell. The resulting sound is focused and dark, with less of an "edge" to it. This bore is very popular, especially in North America.
3) DM Bore: The Deutsche Model, is more cylindrical than the Regular bore. A full, dark "German" sound results from the wider top and the narrower bell. Special order only for DM Bore.
All bores are available in Standard or Royal models. The Royal model is made of very dense grenadilla wood and has a thicker bore wall than the Standard model. The Royal is considered to be Loree's premiere oboe. The Cabart is Loree's student model, and it carries the same reputation for excellent craftsmanship as the professional models. Cabart oboes are special-order only. The '+3' designation means that the model includes a third octave key.
Midwest Musical Imports also has a good supply of used Loree instruments. (Please see the used oboes page for a current list). If you are interested in selling your old Loree on consignment, please feel free to contact us. Lastly, we sell plastic top joints for the standard bore instruments, as well as the Royal. Visit the Loree website.
These select oboes are part of our new inventory, but they are not our newest stock and have already been out on trial. A 2-year crack and 1-year adjustment warranty through Midwest Musical Imports is included with the purchase of these instruments. See Trial Oboes for more information or call us at (800) 926-5587.
