MMI is pleased to announce an expansion of our flute inventory, sales, and service.
We are now offering the new lines of flutes made by Powell: The Signature and Sonaré flutes. These are
flutes made with the uncompromising excellence which Powell is noted for, but at a more affordable price. Along with these
new lines, we continue to carry Yamaha, Powell, Haynes,
Lyric, Selmer and various headjoints. Also, now available - the full line of Burkart flutes!
Keep in mind, headjoints are interchangeable between most brands in models. Please note that some prices may be lower than we are able to advertise. Please call Wes for details. Custom orders welcome!
All of our flutes come fully set up and include a case, swab stick and a 1-year warranty. Up to three flutes may be sent for trial for a 2-week trial period.

Haynes Flutes
William S. Haynes first established his name as a flute
maker through his dedication to exacting detail in every instrument that left his workshop. Then,
in 1913, he created a breakthrough in design that set Haynes flutes even more above the rest. This
breakthrough, which resulted in a patent (see below) corrected a design flaw that had troubled
flutemakers and players up until that time. Through a combination of classic detailed
hand-craftsmanship and innovation in design and technique, William S. Haynes set a standard that
prevails to this day at the flute workshop that still bears his name.

Verne Q. Powell Flutes
Powell has been making hand made flutes in Boston since 1927. They have continually made
improvements in their flutes and continue the tradition of great workmanship. In 1988
Powell developed Aurumite tubing which fuses layers of gold and silver to form the flute tube.

Explanation of Options:
The (inline G) / (offset G) option refers to the location of the G key on the flute. On an
inline G flute the G key is located in the same plane as the other keys on the flute. On
an offset G flute the G keys are moved toward the palm so that it is easier for the fourth
finger to reach the G key. An offset G reduces the amount of twisting in the left wrist
and makes the flute more ergonomic.
The High E Facilitator is a small ring, aka a donut, that is inserted into the lower of
the G holes which makes the High E speak easily. It can be added to a flute after
it is manufactured.
The Split E is another mechanism that helps solve high E's problems. This solution
splits the G key and closes the lower hole, but not the upper when you finger high E.
This makes a high E extremely easy to play, but it does make some alternate fingerings
impossible.
The C# trill is the flutist's answer to trilling between C and C#. The mechanism places
a full size tone hole at the appropriate place for a C# on the flute which is controlled
by the first finger on the right hand. It provides a wonderful C# if you have time to
get to it, and facilitates many trills.
The rollers on the C# and D# keys make it easier for your little finger to slide
around on the footjoint. These rollers facilitate sliding between D# and C3.
This option beats using nose grease.
Wes Huisinga
Wes Huisinga graduated from the University
of Minnesota with a degree in oboe performance and also has attended Thomas Stacy English
horn seminars. He has played with many regional orchestras, including five years with
the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra. Wes does woodwind doubling in musical theater
orchestras and has played with Theater Latté Da, Chanhassen Dinner Theaters and Southern
Theatre. He can throw fabulous dinner parties if so inclined.
