Aaron Hill – Professor of Oboe, University of Wisconsin Madison

Image result for Aaron Hill oboeProfessor Hill serves on the music faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, teaching oboe and performing with the Wingra Wind Quintet. Prior to moving to Madison, he lived in Virginia for eight years, teaching oboe and chamber music at the University of Virginia McIntire Department of Music and James Madison University School of Music along with serving as principal oboe in the Charlottesville Symphony and English horn in the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. During the summer, he performs as principal oboe with the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra in Virginia.

Hill earned his bachelor of music degree with highest honors from the University of Michigan, where he played principal oboe on William Bolcom’s Songs of Innocence and Experience with Leonard Slatkin, a recording for Naxos that won the Grammy Award for Best Classical Album. He also holds a master of music degree and an artist diploma from the Yale School of Music, where he received the Thomas Nyfenger Memorial Prize for Outstanding Woodwind Performance. He completed his doctor of musical arts degree in performance, pedagogy, and literature at James Madison University. He also holds additional pedagogical certifications from the Gordon Institute of Music Learning and Marianne Ploger’s Institute of Musical Perception. His oboe teachers include Nancy Ambrose King, Richard Killmer, and David Weiss.

 

Elizabeth Koch Tiscione – Principal Oboe, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

Image result for Elizabeth Koch oboePrincipal Oboe Elizabeth Koch Tiscione, joined the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) at the beginning of the 2007-2008 season. She currently holds the George M. and Corrie Hoyt Brown Chair.

In addition to her responsibilities with the ASO, Ms. Tiscione plays Principal Oboe at the Grand Teton Music Festival and is a member of the Atlanta Chamber Players. She has performed as a guest musician with the orchestras of Philadelphia, St. Louis, St. Paul, Baltimore, Rochester, Buffalo, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Recent solo engagements include the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony, and Dekalb Symphony Orchestra. She has been featured on NPR’s “From the Top,” and has also performed at many chamber music festivals throughout the country, including Tannery Pond, Cape Cod, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

IDRS 2017

Please come visit us at this year’s International Double Reed Society Convention in Appleton, Wisconsin!  We’ll have a full selection of instruments, bocals, and accessories to try and purchase. Come by and say hi to bassoonists Jessica & Katie, oboists Jeff & Steven, as well as free repairs offered at our table by Eric, Virginia, and Allen.

Rates are:  $10/hour for studio use.

Nicholas Daniel Oboe Masterclass & Recital

We are thrilled to welcome internationally renowned artist and chamber musician, Nicholas Daniel for a Masterclass and recital here at Midwest Musical Imports on Saturday March 25th, 2017 from 2:30 -5:30 pm!

Mr. Daniel will give a brief recital and then work with several area college students.  The event is jointly sponsored by Marigaux Paris and Midwest Musical Imports.  We will have Marigaux oboes to play before and after the event. We will also have a reception with snacks post masterclass.  Please join us for this wonderful opportunity to hear and work with this amazing musician!

Nicholas Daniel – Oboe and Conductor

Nicholas Daniel’s long and distinguished career began when, at the age of 18, he won the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition. As one of the UK’s most distinguished soloists, he has become an important ambassador for music in many different fields. In recognition of this, he was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Medal for Music.

Nicholas has been a concerto soloist with many of the world’s leading orchestras, working under conductors such as Edward Gardner, Sakari Oramo, Roger Norrington, Jiri Belohlavek, Mark Wigglesworth, James MacMillan and Mark Elder. In addition to his experience in Baroque music, he has premiered works by composers including Harrison Birtwistle, Henri Dutilleux, Thea Musgrave, John Tavener, James MacMillan and Michael Tippett. His recording of oboe concertos by Vaughan Williams and MacMillan was awarded the BBC Music Magazine Premiere Award in 2016.

He is oboist with Britten Sinfonia and Artistic Director of the Leicester International Festival. He teaches in the UK and in Germany, where is he Professor of Oboe at the Musikhochschule, Trossingen

He made his conducting debut at the 2004 BBC Proms with Britten Sinfonia. He has conducted many projects with the orchestra over 20 years, including many new works, and recently conducted orchestras in Finland and Norway.

An active chamber musician, Nicholas is a founder member of the Haffner Wind Ensemble and the Britten Oboe Quartet, whose debut disc will be released on the Harmonia Mundi label early 2017. He also regularly works with the pianists Charles Owen and Julius Drake, and with the Carducci and Vogler String Quartets.

Nicholas plays a Marigaux 901 FSC model, the first Oboe anywhere in the world to be certified as fairly traded by the Forestry Stewardship Council.
