New Fox Bassoon Models in 2014
April 22nd, 2014 by Trent
We’re very excited to carry the latest bassoon offerings from Fox Products. With a new semi-professional Renard model and a new professional design, we’re sure that we can find just the right new Fox bassoon for you.
Introduced in 2013, the new Fox Renard “Artist” Bassoon model 260 is a thick-walled, short bore instrument. The same flexibility and sparkling tone color that made the 240 so popular is now available in this thick wall model for extra projection, more stability, more consistent tone color, and a deeper, more “baritone” quality of the sound. An excellent instrument that fills out the position of the semi-professional bassoon from Fox. A great choice for college level performance majors, or an advanced avocational player that is looking for more than what the other student models might offer, but still keep under a professional model budget.
The Fox model 680 is a hybrid thick/thin walled professional instrument with a totally new bore design! Like the 201 and 660, this short bore bassoon has slightly higher pitch, and more flexibility of sound compared to the longer bore models. This model is thinner on the wing joint side like a 201 but has characteristics of a thick-walled bassoon on the bass joint side. The result is an instrument that maintains the clarity and lightness of the thin-walled bassoons, but with the fullness of sound and big bottom end of the thick-walled bassoons. It’s much more than that, though, as we’ve found the 680 is greater than the sum of its parts. This is sure to be the preferred model for both soloists and orchestral musicians.
Like the other professional models, the 680 is available in the classic Mountain Maple or in Red Maple. The Red Maple option is more expensive but we have noticed a strong preference for that wood from more discerning players. We typically order each professional Fox with a few “extras” such as an Eb trill, and Ab/Bb trill – the A/Whisper bridge with roller is now standard on all professional Fox models. Please call us to discuss what we currently have available. If you have specific keywork needs we can have a stock instrument customized for you after purchase.
